About

The philosophical foundation of Satya Sadhna, rooted in the teachings of Lord Mahavira, and the tradition through which it is taught.

The Jain philosophical foundation

Satya Sadhna is deeply rooted in the eternal truths of Jain philosophy and the direct teachings of Lord Mahavira. At its core, the practice views liberation (moksha) not as something attained through external rituals, but as the direct realisation of one's own pure, conscious nature (shuddha chetana). Lord Mahavira taught that true restraint, non-violence (ahimsa) and inner stillness begin when the mind ceases its outward wandering and observes its own modifications with equanimity (samata).

In this tradition, meditation (dhyana) is the practical application of samyak charitra (right conduct) and samyak drishti (right vision). By withdrawing the senses from external distractions and turning the awareness inward, a sadhak learns to observe physical sensations and mental fluctuations without attachment or aversion. This systematic self-observation purifies the soul (jiva) of deep-seated mental karma, dissolves inner agitation, and reveals the unshakeable peace that is intrinsic to the true self.

The Khartargacch tradition

The Khartargacch is in the lineage of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankar. Its head carries the practice forward from one generation to the next.

Between the 10th and 15th centuries the tradition gave four Dada Gurudevs: Shri Jin Dutt Suriji, Manidhari Shri Jin Chandra Suriji, Shri Jin Kushal Suriji and Shri Jin Chandra Suriji. Since Shri Jin Dutt Suriji named Manidhari Shri Jin Chandra Suriji as his successor, every fourth Acharya has carried the name Shri Jin Chandra Suriji, a tradition of about a thousand years that the present Acharya continues.

How Satya Sadhna came to be taught

Satya Sadhna is an age-old practice, handed down from Guru to disciple and learnt under a Guru's guidance. It is taught today by Param Pujya Gurudev Shri Pujyaji Shri Jin Chandra Suriji Maharajsahab, the present Acharya of the Khartargacch.
